Moon Tent for the Flower Moon at FormaHQ, Peveril Gardens
Rosemary Mayer: Make Me a Place in Time and Seasons
Sunday 11 May 2025
This is a recording of a spring evening under the ‘flower moon’ on the occasion of a one-night celebration of Rosemary Mayer’s ‘Moon Tent’ with readings, refreshments and moon viewing in Forma’s Peveril Gardens.
Mayer’s ‘Moon Tent’ was a site-specific, ‘temporary monument’ realised on the night of the full moon in October 1982 at the home of art historian Robert Hobbs in Lansing, New York
For this event, we worked closely with The Estate of Rosemary Mayer and artist Reto Pulfer in the spirit of Mayer’s approach. Her accompanying drawings with their various iterations and provocations such as ‘have you got the time’ and ‘can you stay up late?’ have served as a guide and an invitation.
Re-interpreting the ‘Moon Tent’ and referencing Mayer’s numerous drawings of tents, drapes, banners, fabrics and flags, Pulfer responded to the existing architecture of FormaHQ and the rooftop setting at Peveril Gardens. Marie Warsh of The Estate of Rosemary Mayer also brought together new, handmade florals, realised with direct reference to the drawings and made in-situ from the glassine, cellophane and coloured papers that frequented Mayer’s practice. Throughout the evening, seasonal and moon-inspired refreshments were shared among guests while they listened to poetry readings by artist Siobhan Liddell, artist and writer Natalie Häusler, and writers Vanessa Onwuemezi and Aurelia Guo.
